Education in today's classrooms is no longer limited to the chalkboard and an old textbook. With the growth of new technology spreading to schools worldwide, teachers now have access to amazing tools that can help them enhance their lessons. Learning how to use these tools will help students prepare to enter the modern economy after they graduate from college.

1. Computers – Although computers have been a part of most classrooms for decades, modern computers bear little resemblance to their clunky ancestors. Modern classroom computers come equipped with useful and educational software, including games for younger students. Most teachers spend time teaching their students how to type efficiently. Learning solid computer skills at a young age is crucial to helping future college graduates succeed in the modern workplace.

2. The Internet – The Internet can be a useful tool in the classroom if used properly. You can encourage your students to try using the Internet to conduct research for a writing assignment. This presents an excellent opportunity for you to teach your students how to search through the Internet to find the most useful information. For older students, consider assigning students to create their own weblog to document their daily school-related thoughts.

3. E-Readers – The growth of e-readers has helped many schools have better access to updated textbooks and reference books. E-readers can hold thousands of books, making it easy for teachers to quickly pass out a relevant book to each student in the class. Although e-readers cost considerably more than a single book, classrooms can expect to get years of use from each device. Learning how to use an e-reader effectively also helps students prepare to use other similar devices, including tablets.

4. Tablets – Tablets offer plenty of functionality in a small size. Educational software for tablets ranges from memory games, encyclopedias, math tutoring and more. Students can even use tablets to take notes during class. With wireless technology, teachers can easily share information directly with the students. Additionally, due to the small size of a tablet, these devices may be more feasible than computers in small classrooms.

5. Digital Cameras – Small digital cameras have increased in quality and decreased in cost over the last few years, making them an affordable tool for school districts. You can use these fun tools in a number of different school assignments. For example, you can encourage your student's creativity by asking them to take pictures of buildings they see that inspire them. You can also motivate your students to try documenting the mundane parts of their life by snapping several pictures each day. The students can share their pictures with the rest of the class on the class website.

6. 3-D Printers – 3-D printers can be used in a variety of educational settings, from science to art class. Biology teachers can use these impressive printers to accurately create a model of a human heart to help teach students about basic anatomy. Art history teachers can use a 3-D printer to make a miniature replica of a famous cathedral so that students can get a close glimpse at the inner workings of the building. Students can use 3-D printers for their own projects as well. A student learning about robots can use the printer to make parts for his own small robot.

To best equip your students with the knowledge and skills they need to succeed later in life, you must help them learn how to use all of these new devices. From strong keyboard skills to understanding how to best use a tablet, these skills can help students find their dream job in the workplace of the future.
